If you run a home services business and you're either not advertising or dumping money into ads with nothing to catch the lead, Google Local Services Ads for home services is the cheapest front door you're not using. But here's the part nobody tells you: the badge at the top of search is worthless if your phone, booking, and review flow behind it are broken.

Most contractors get this backwards. They obsess over getting more leads while quietly setting fire to a big chunk of the leads they already have.
Let's fix both. First the front door. Then the plumbing.
LSAs are the little boxes at the very top of Google — above the regular ads, above the map, above everything. They carry the green "Google Guaranteed" badge. You get verified (license, insurance, background check), and Google puts you at the top for searches like "plumber near me."

Two things make them different from every other ad:
Cost-per-lead is the only ad number that matters to a trades business. Here's how the three main channels stack up for home services, worst to best:

3. Facebook / Meta Ads — highest cost per qualified lead. Great for cheap clicks, terrible for intent. Someone scrolling reels is not thinking about their water heater. You'll get lots of "leads" and a pile of ghosts. Fine for retargeting and brand. A weak front door for emergency trades.
2. Regular Google Search Ads — middle. You're catching intent ("AC repair open now"), which is good. But you pay per click whether they convert or not, you're bidding against national lead-gen companies with deep pockets, and you need a landing page that actually converts. More setup, more waste, more expensive per booked job.
1. Local Services Ads — lowest cost per booked job for home services. Top placement, trust badge, pay-per-lead pricing, and you can dispute leads that aren't real. For plumbers, HVAC, electricians, and cleaners this is usually the highest-intent, lowest-waste channel available. It's the front door with the shortest line.
Ranked simply: LSAs beat Google Ads beats Facebook for booked jobs in the trades. Not always. But usually — and by a lot.
LSAs reward exactly what a good local trade already has: real reviews, a service area, licensing, and fast response. Google ranks LSA placement partly on your review count, review recency, and how fast you answer leads.
Translation: this channel is built for the operator who runs a tight ship. If you answer fast and rack up 5-star reviews, Google gives you more leads at a lower cost. It compounds.
That's the good news. Here's the expensive news.
Here's where a barbershop doing $30k/mo and an HVAC shop doing $200k/mo make the identical mistake: they turn on the front door before they build the machine behind it.
Picture it. You go live on LSAs. Leads start coming in. Then:
You just paid for a lead and lit it on fire. Say you do that on a third or more of your leads — a realistic number for a shop with no system behind the phone. You've quietly doubled your real cost-per-booked-job while blaming the ad platform.
The badge is the front door. It is not the machine. The click is worthless without the plumbing behind it.
Before you spend a dollar on Local Services Ads, these three have to be dialed in:
Lead response time is the single biggest lever in home services. The homeowner who called you also called two competitors — whoever picks up first usually wins the job. Miss the call? An automatic text back within 60 seconds ("Hey, this is Mike at [Company] — saw you called, what do you need handled?") keeps them from dialing your competitor. Speed isn't a nice-to-have. It's the whole game.
Every step between "I want this" and "it's on the calendar" leaks money. Online booking, clear time slots, instant confirmation. If booking requires three calls and a callback, you'll lose the busy homeowner who was ready to pay.
Reviews aren't just social proof — they directly lower your LSA cost and raise your ranking. Every completed job should trigger an automatic review request by text. No manual "remembering." A system. This is the flywheel: more reviews → better placement → cheaper leads → more jobs → more reviews.
Here's the whole picture. Local Services Ads get the click at the lowest cost in the trades. But a click is just potential energy. What converts it into a booked, paid, reviewed job is the system behind it: instant response, frictionless booking, and automated review capture working together.
That back end is what we build at Kingdom Kode. The ad platform is rented. The engine that catches, books, and compounds every lead is the asset you own. Turning on ads without it is like installing a bigger faucet over a bucket with no bottom.
Get the plumbing right and your cost-per-lead drops on the same ad spend — because you're converting the leads you already paid for.
Before you turn on Local Services Ads, find out exactly where your current leads are leaking — speed, booking, or follow-up. That's the whole point of the diagnostic.
Run your free Revenue Code Diagnostic. It'll show you where your leads are dying and what it's costing you every month — in plain numbers. Fix that first, then open the front door.

Most SaaS founders treat the free trial as a waiting room. The ones converting at 25% or higher treat it as a structured sales system. Here is how to build that system.
